Wayne Junction Woolworks
Situated between Niceville and Germantown, at the Wayne Junction SEPTA station, the Woolworks is an opportunistic urban design project. Repurposing vacant and underused lots, the design creates a locally sensitive industrial system that provides employment, identity, and social benefit in North Philadelphia. Components of the system provide agricultural and textile material as well as public space. Anchors of the design include a plaza/market space at the face of Wayne Junction Station, and the conversion of a large storage building into a multi-level wool processing facility, complete with large-scale green roof that serves as an alpaca-habitat and visitor overlook.
